JOB DONE

29th June 2014
Hi Everyone So we have good news today. We have completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in 24Hours. We started at 8am on friday morning for the long drive up to Ben Nevis, We arrived at 4pm in the afternoon. At 5pm the group started the challenge up Ben Nevis all 1345m of it. we were lucky enough to hike up through the snow at the top a reareity in the UK at the time of year (June). The group successfully completed this mountain in 5hours. It was a great start and moral was high so a quick change and a bite to eat we were back on the mini bus and heading to Scafell Pike At 4am we arrived into wasdale at the base of Scafell Pike, 978m stood in our way and with aching muscles and a night with very little sleep it was a daunting challenge. Fortunately we had a good group and the jokes kept flowing to keep everyone in a good mood. As we reached the top we were in dense cloud but we were lucky enough to hit a break in the clouds just as we sumitted and the views were breathtaking. Once again there was big smiles on faces and a little sing song followed for the journey back down the mountain. The final Mountain was Mt Snowdon in Wales. This was it, the final hurdle and the group went of at a good pace quite surprising considering what they had already done. Thick cloud quickly enveloped the group and visibility was down to 50m. But the group stayed high in spirits and battled up the side of the mountain reaching the summit in exactly 2 hours. A 9 mile hike down the Llamberis path followed but spirits were high. We were hurting but it felt good, the feeling of accomplishment and pride not just for yourself but for the group and everyone involved. It overpowered the aches strains and pains of blisters on your feet and in your legs. Finally it was done. We met up with the two drivers Colin and Keith at the bottom of the path. They were fantastic in getting us to where we needed to be and sorting out kit, food, water etc during the whole challenge. We truly couldn't of done it without these two. Fortunately we had packed a celebratory beer and toasted one memorable and crazy 48 hours. The journey home ensued but not before stopping off at pizza hut to fill our faces with yummy pizza. Thank you for supporting the cause You are the people that make the difference. Three Peaks Challenge 2014 Info

13th February 2014
As you may be aware I am planning on doing the three peaks challenge on the 27th June 2014 to raise money for the Andy Cantle Memorial fund. This challenge involves climbing Ben Nevis (1344M), Scafell Pike (978M) and Mt Snowdon (1085M) in the space of 24 hours. I’m hoping that I can get a group together to join me to conquer this challenge (as I don’t want to do it alone). In all the challenge involves some 42 km (26 miles) of ascent and descent, with total travel approaching around 600 miles, not including getting to Fort William to start with and getting home afterwards. PLAN: Friday 27th June; • Set off from Sunderland marina at 0900hrs for Ben Nevis Scotland (6hrs) arrive by 1500hrs. • Start Challenge at 1700hrs scale Ben Nevis up & down in 5 hours. • 2200hrs Drive south for Scafell Pike England (6hrs) Saturday 28th June; • 0400hrs arrive at Wasdale and scale Scafell Pike up & down (4hrs) • 0800hrs drive south to Mt Snowdon Wales (4.5hrs) • 1230hrs scale Mt Snowdon up & down (4.5hrs) • FINISH go to accommodation Sunday 29th June; • Return leg to Sunderland Marina (4.5hrs) Frequently Asked Questions? WILL I NEED TO BE FIT? Yes you will. Ideally before the challenge you will have climbed a mountain you know what it is that this challenge entails. A fitness plan will be provided HOW MUCH WILL IT COST? At present the maximum cost we hope to be is £50 per person this will more than likely be smaller. See overleaf. Page1/2 HOW MUCH DO I HAVE TO RAISE? As this is a self-organised event there is no minimum/maximum, we hope that each person can raise at least £100. Fundraising forms and other tools will be made available. HOW DO WE GET THERE? We will be hiring a minibus so there is space for everyone involved and your equipment. WHERE WILL WE STAY ON THE NIGHT? This challenge runs non-stop for 24hours so you will sleep on the bus whilst travelling. The 2nd night will be spent in a hostel in wales. WHAT ARE THE DATES? 0900 Leave from Sunderland marina on the 27TH-29TH JUNE 2014. WHAT DO I NEED TO TAKE A kit list will be provided for the challenge. Climbing boots are essential as there will most likely be snow! HOW OLD DO I HAVE TO BE? For this challenge you have to be 18 or over! WHO WILL DRIVE? We have organised a driver for this event so you don’t have too. They will be part of our support team and are an integral part of us completing this challenge. IS THERE ANYWHERE I CAN DO SOME RESEARCH ON THE CHALLENGE? http://www.thethreepeakschallenge.co.uk/national-three-peaks-challenge http://www.uk3peaks.com/ Any Further Questions Please ask Gav or write them below/overleaf with your name and il get back to you.
